We switched to drip irrigation mainly because of regulated water availability, daytime irrigation bans, and strong winds that make sprinklers unreliable. With drippers, we achieve more uniform potato crops and consistently better quality. Over time, we’ve also seen less scab, fewer wireworms, and significantly less late blight compared to sprinkler irrigation. In addition, we save around 20% water and 10–15% fertilizer, and in the last two years we’ve achieved over 10% higher yields. This allows us to increase value on limited land and prepares our farm for future water and climate challenges.
